Killer Mike Returns to Share His Story with ‘MICHAEL’ Album

blame it on Shake June 16, 2023

Killer Mike is back with a new solo album.

While he may have scored the most notoriety for his work as one half of Run The Jewels, Killer Mike was killing sh*t way before his brother El-P entered the picture. And today, the pride of The A is back to remind y’all with the release of his sixth studio album, MICHAEL.

“You’ve heard me speak,” Mike said on IG. “You’ve watched me discuss the past, present and future. You’ve seen my videos, have possibly even attended a show or two. But now, you’ll meet ‘MICHAEL’ the man.”

“This is my come home moment musically,” Mike told Zane Lowe during an interview on Apple Music. “It is the music that influenced me. It is gospel, it is soul, it is funk, it is hip hop. And from a moral standpoint, I was taught morality through the Black Southern Christian Church, which gave us the civil rights movement, the abolitionist movement, which gave us some of the most beautiful music ever. And I feel like I’m honoring that and I finally figured out my place. It is my submission to God, like, ‘Okay, you got me.'”

Equipped with 14 tracks – led by the incredibly heartfelt “Motherless” and “Scientists & Engineers” with André 3000 and Future (both songs feature the talented Eryn Allen Kane, as well) – the album includes features from El-P (of course) 2 Chainz, Curren$y, CeeLo Green, 6LACK, Young Thug, Mozzy, Jagged Edge, Blxst, Kaash Paige, Fabo, and Ty Dolla $ign. All of which, assist Mike in sharing the “glorious story and beautiful nuances of what it’s like to be a Black boy growing up in the deeply religious south, specifically The Westside of Atlanta.”

Press play, close your eyes and experience art. The album is also available everywhere you listen to music, so be sure to add it ASAP.
